Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya
Khwaja hazrat nizamuddin auliya was one of the most prominent sufi saint of chishti order . He was born near badayun ( Uttar Pradesh, India ) and lived during 1238-1325 AD. He is considered as most famous Sufi in Indian subcontinent. His predecessors from the same order were Fariduddin Ganjshakar, Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki and Moinuddin Chishti. They all four saints are considered as most prominent pillars of chisthi order in history of Indian subcontinent. Chishti is an important part of sufism culture.
Nizamuddin auliya always focused on believing in one true god. He believed that loving god means loving the humanity and vice-versa. His thoughts about the world were marked bya highly evolved sense of unity in diversity in terms of religion and kindness. It has also been claimed by famous historiographer of 14th century Ziauddin Barani that He had way too much influence on Muslims of Delhi. Due to his influence they started looking world and wordly matters as subject to Moksha( see reference ). People started following Sufism , Prayers and living isolated from the world.
Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah, Delhi
nizamuddin dargah , mausoleum of khwaja nizamuddin auliya is situated in delhi west , New Delhi . This place is visited by thousands of visitors per week. The nearby places inlcudes hazrat nizamuddin railway station, Humayun’s Tomb , Chausath Khambha, Mirza Ghalib’s tomb, Sabz Burj (Blue Gumbad) at the Nizamuddin Circle and Lal Mahal.
Tomb of khwaja amir khusrau is also situated in same compound near dargah.
The dargah is easily accessible by road transport. You can take many DTC Buses which will drop you near dargah. Many metro station are located in 2-3 kilo meters radius including Jor bagh metro station, central secretariat metro station, and pragati maidan metro station. Nizamuddin railway station is at walking distance and You can take trains to all Indian railway routes from there.
Talking about entry, dragah tomb or main building opens from 6 AM to 10 PM . But the dargah compound is open to all for 24 hours.
Qawwali at Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah and Cultural connection
Qawwali sessions are held every Thursday after sunset time namaz. Often Saturday is also a Qawwali session day but sometimes it is cancelled. But Thursday sessions are never cancelled being precursor to jumme ki raat (i.e. Friday eve).
Arziyan, a qawwali song in the film Delhi 6 starring Abhishek Bachhan and Sonam Kapoor(2009) composed by A. R. Rahman is dedicated to Nizamuddin Aulia.Kun Faya Kun a popular song from bollywood movie Rockstar (2011 ) also composed by A. R. Rahman is also shot at dargah featuring bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and Nizami Brothers, the traditional qawwals of Nizamuddin dargah. The dargah has also been featured in famous movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan by Kabir Khan featuring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
Concluding, i must say, This dargah is one of the most prominent pillars that are holding the secularism of Indian subcontinent. And These type of buildings must be preserved with high care.
