Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (75th Independence Day)

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav flagged off by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a festival of 75 week to commemorate 75th Independence of our country . The objective is:
• To encourage the participation of the citizens so as to start ‘Janandolan’ which signifies that the changes at small level will ultimately help in achieving the national       goals.
• ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, the Mahotsav is intended to promote understanding among the citizens by means of several activities.
• The glorious history of our country is to be highlighted in the Mahotsav.
• India will take the ‘Shatabdi Sankalp ‘ which will guide India for the next 25 years.
• The Mahotsav will highlight the development of India in different sectors since Independence. The graph of India’s development will bring a sense of joy among people and will make an individual proud .
• Every state, Every language is another objective which will highlight the positive aspects of the different regions , as India is culturally a diverse country.

The theme ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ throws light upon the contribution of the unsung heroes in the freedom struggle. Based on this theme all states and Union Territories have to plan different events with a  motive  to promote the feeling of selflessness among the people . The events  planned must depict the history of the country. The idea of ‘Make in India’ (Atamnirbhar Bharat) is set to achieve the self – reliance and further this will increase opportunity for the locals.
The Mahotsav lays emphasis upon the five pillars – the struggle for freedom, ideas that will help emerge new India, achievements of our country , the essential steps to be taken and the resolutions made by the citizens of the country on the eve of 75th Independence Day.

On 12th March ,2021, the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced with padyatra from Sabarmati to Dandi for 25 days . This was exactly 91 years after the iconic Dandi March which took place on 12th March, 1930 under the Civil Disobedience Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi. 25 days of padyatra symbolizes the fact that we take inspiration from our past and work in an extraordinary way to reach the set target by overcoming the various obstacles that comes in the path. This signifies the sacrifices of the countless freedom fighters which bored the fruit of Independence. Thus, the Mahotsav started with great enthusiasm among the citizens.

All the Ministries are entrusted with the responsibility to organize various events. Among these , few of the events that has been organized so far are, the Ministry of Education organized seminars, symposiums, competitions like essay writing , poster making, where 50 Universities and 17 states participated. The Ministry of personnel, Public Grievances and Pension participated in this Mahotsav by releasing ’75 important rules of family pensioners’ on a social media.

The National Cadet Corps participated in the cleanliness drive and in this drive the cadets from different parts of the country cleaned the statue of military heroes as a tribute to their phenomenal will power. Beside this tree plantation drive was also organized by the Indian coast Guard in New Delhi where 75 trees were planted .

The notable contribution of women towards the conservation of water was appreciated by the felicitation of 41 such women on 2nd June. Several webinars were organized like, ‘Catch the Rain’ which tend to create awareness among the people for the conservation of water by using suitable structures for rain water harvesting . The ‘ Water Tech Talks’ was the session organized to highlight the several technological advancements , research , excellence and achievements related to water conservation.

On the International Yoga Day, that is, 21st June, ‘ Yoga, An Indian Heritage’ was popularised with the participation of all the bodies of Ministries at 75 cultural heritage sites . Only a healthy society can strive towards the goal of overall development in every sector. Apart from this, the zonal cultural centres and Sangeet Natak Akademi of Ministry of Culture organized mesmerizing programs depicting the theme of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat ‘at the heritage sites.

To enliven the spirit among the citizens an online quiz was held on Life & Works of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar . MOU was signed with President of Shouf Cedar Reserve, Mr. Charles Noujim with a motive to construct and furnish the reception cabin at Mrusti entrance of the reserve and plant about 800 cedar tress in one hectare area to support reforestation. Handloom is the legacy of our country . National Handloom day celebrated on August 7  symbolized the contribution of this sector towards the socio-economic development of the country ; also to uplift this sector and prevent its extinction.

The Mahotsav is a defining moment in life of each one of us . We are embracing the legacy of our ancestors, our rich cultural heritage and the efforts of the immortal souls, our heroes who fought the restless fights to make our country independent. Today we are democratic, have freedom to choose and spirit to reach the heights , it’s all the credit of the unsung heroes. We have to continue on the progressive path and with constant effort to build New India. India where every sector will be equally empowered . ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ should be made successful with mass participation of the people .
